The network that hosts Your Origin Story, my writing community, hosted a livestream, updating us on the updates they’re making. One of the ladies, who was in the chat answering questions, came on screen. It wasn’t planned. An impromptu on screening because it was easier than typing a reply to all the questions.
She stated, “Sorry about my face.”
My body recoiled. Ugh.
DON’T APOLOGIZE FOR YOUR FACE!
I screamed at my laptop, imagining that my words could reach her.
She looked fine, beautiful. In fact, if she didn’t mention she wasn’t wearing makeup, I wouldn’t have noticed she wasn’t wearing makeup. It wouldn’t have crossed my mind.
How many times do you do this? You bring attention to a part of your body that nobody else was paying attention to. Your insecurities now out in the open for the world to see, apologizing as though taking up space as you are is a sin.
Stop apologizing for your face.
Stop apologizing for your tears.
Stop apologizing for speaking up.
Stop apologizing for existing.
It is probably so ingrained that it will take you some time to fully stop apologizing. But, today, I want you to start noticing when you apologize for something that you don’t need to apologize for.
I also want you to comment below and promise me that you’re going to stop apologizing for existing.
